In English today, I realised that Billie Joe Armstrong has actually made reference to Shakespeare in his songs. This isnt that first time ive realised, I noticed in English last year when we were reading A Midsummer Night's Dream where Bottom says something to the effect of "Comedy and Tragedy". Billie Joe references to this in the song St Jimmy (no 6 on American Idiot) where he says Its Comedy and Tragedy. Its St Jimmy. And thats my name.
Today, in English, I came across another reference in Romeo and Juliet in the prologue where it says "The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love, and the continuance of their parents' rage"
Billie Joe uses these words, Rage and Love in many songs; as I have pointed out before. In songs like Jesus Of Suburbia, Letterbomb and Are We The Waiting.
Im not sure if maybe Billie has read some Shakespeares and been influenced by them. Maybe he's read them and just liked certain words or phrases.
As we read more Shakespeares in higher grades, Ill keep an eye out for any more references made by Billie Joe.
